This device converts trash into three materials: Syngas or synthetic gas, "that can be converted into steam or electricity; metal ingots that can be resold and melted down again; and a glassy solid that can be processed into material for floor tiles or gravel."
I remember that huge pile of trash in Lagos. If one had one of these babies, one could set up a trash collection company that could be paid for the collection services and sell the by products from the inceneration. This is one for the Business Mind.
By the way, the process of conversion is called Plasma Arc Gasification and the company that produces the device is Pyrogenesis and is based in Montreal.

It works by combining ultraviolet light technology with a carbon filter. The system can be easily installed under or above the kitchen counter top.
The article below is one from Business 2.0 magazine that sites the use of the above device. It was attached to a conventional mechanical water filter to improve the effectiveness of the treatment.
